The Royal Decree of April 10 2016 regarding the electronic bill of lading is introducing a new trial period in Belgium. Transport companies operating in Belgium can use this electronic bill of lading (that conforms to the E-CMR protocol) during the trial period.
Project start date is May 1st 2016 and end date May 1st 2019. Suppliers wanting to offer the technology, have to receive confirmation from the General Director of the Directorate-General for Road Transport and Safety of the Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport. Application must be submitted by February 1st 2017 at the latest.
Only if all the conditions are fulfilled (e.g. E-CMR protocol) the electronic bill of lading is equal to the paper bill of lading in national transport. In that sense the electronic bill of lading is replacing the paper bill of lading in practise.
