The European Commission declares Belgian rulings illegal

The European Commission has concluded that the so-called "excess profit rulings" agreed between the Belgian tax authorities and a number of multinationals must be annulled. After the Netherlands and Luxemburg had already been reprimanded for tax schemes, it is now Belgium's turn.
More specifically, with the rulings, a part of the multinationals' profit became exempt from taxes in Belgium. The Commission has now decided that these rulings constitute illegal state aid.
